From professionals to those who picked up a piece of chalk for the first time in years, the first-ever Chalk Howard Street outdoor art festival drew street artists to Rogers Park on Sunday. Although the event faced a heavy thunderstorm late in the afternoon, artists covered their works in progress with tarps and waited for the storm to pass.

Later that evening, both onlookers and artists gathered to celebrate the finished masterpieces that ranged from soaring aircrafts to arctic glaciers featuring penguins.
