Evanston Police Department officers on Monday night responded to a report of a man with a gun in the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue in west Evanston.

A 52-year-old Evanston resident told officers that someone was trying to get into his residence and that four unknown men shot him in the back with a BB gun, according to Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew.

The man had four small welts on his back — consistent with being shot with a BB gun — but refused medical attention and then “became uncooperative,” Glew said.

A 36-year-old Evanston resident who was witness to the incident told officers someone tried to enter his residence as well but did not see the person or people responsible, Glew added.

Car broken into in northwest Evanston

EPD officers responded to a report of burglary of a motor vehicle on the corner of Darrow Avenue and Lyons Street in west Evanston on Tuesday night.

The 42-year-old owner of the vehicle, a 2000 Buick LeSabre, told officers that someone broke his passenger side window to gain entry to the car, Glew said.

The car was ransacked and a back cushion was removed, Glew added, but the man didn’t want the car inspected by an evidence technician and requested the incident only be documented.
