Man stabs dog in downtown Evanston

Evanston Police Department officers are searching for a man who stabbed a dog in front of its owners in downtown Evanston.

An older couple was walking their dog past the Evanston First Bank & Trust, 820 Church St., at approximately noon on Friday, said Evanston Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew.

A man in his thirties, wearing a green jacket, approached the couple and asked to pet their dog, Glew said. He then took out a knife and stabbed the dog at least once, before running away from the scene. No one has been taken into custody, he added.

The owners took the dog to an animal hospital for surgery, Glew said, and police are investigating.
