Police determined the cause of the call of a man with a gun on Northwestern’s campus to be a part-time Northwestern student with a wooden toy gun, University spokesman Bob Rowley told The Daily in an email.
The man was taken into custody Tuesday evening, several hours after police got a call that there was a man with a gun on campus near the Segal Visitors Center. Initially, police believed the cause of the call to be props being used by one of several drama camps in the area.
A search of the area around the Segal Visitors Center turned up no suspects, but police later located the man after high school campers near Deering Meadow reported being “verbally harassed” by the suspect, Rowley said.
He was given citations for disorderly conduct and possessing a small amount of cannabis and was escorted off campus. The wooden gun was found in his vehicle.
