A 25-year-old Evanston man was arrested Monday in connection with a report of domestic battery in south Evanston.

Police responded to an unidentified caller in the 100 block of Ashland Avenue who was crying, Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew said. At the scene, they found a 20-year-old woman with scratches on her upper left arm and other marks on her neck and face. She told police her and the man were “only playing,” Glew said.

Police also recovered a loaded handgun and crack cocaine that were discarded outside the building.

The man — who lives in the building — was arrested and charged with domestic battery.
