An elderly couple reported missing costume jewelry at their home Wednesday after two men visited, posing as employees of a home repair company, police said.

The couple was distracted in the backyard of their home in the 2700 block of Bryant Avenue by one suspect around 3:20 p.m. The other suspect entered the front of the home through an unlocked door, Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew said. The couple became suspicious and dialed 911.

Glew said several pieces of costume jewelry were taken. No value has been listed.

Residential burglary valued at approximately $11,000

An Evanston resident reported a burglary at their home in the 700 block of Ridge Avenue on Wednesday night.

Someone damaged the window of a rear door between 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Glew said. Nobody was home at the time of the burglary. A silver MacBook laptop, two Canon cameras, three Canon camera lenses and a pair of diamond earrings are missing. The stolen property is valued at approximately $11,000, Glew said.

There are currently no suspects.
