A local man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a public indecency incident that occurred Saturday in downtown Evanston.

A 19-year-old woman was sitting at the Panera Bread in the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue on Sunday when the man began making long, unwanted eye contact with her, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. The man then exposed himself to her and began masturbating.

After the woman approached Panera staff, they asked the man to leave, Dugan said. Detectives positively identified the man on Tuesday, and he was taken into custody.

Dugan said the man was charged with public indecency, a felony.

Packages stolen from outside apartment complex in south Evanston

The property manager of an apartment building in south Evanston reported Wednesday afternoon that several packages had been stolen from the building.

Dugan said the property manager told officers they found some opened packages that were delivered to residents of the building, located in the 700 block of Chicago Avenue. When they observed security footage, the property manager saw two men enter the lobby and steal approximately five packages.

The property manager left messages for the residents to determine the contents of the missing packages, Dugan said.
