A woman was arrested Thursday morning in connection with driving while under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop in west Evanston.

The woman was speeding and crossed the double yellow line twice, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. After being stopped, the woman slurred her speech, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes.

The officers found an open bottle of cognac in the vehicle, and determined that the woman had a suspended license, Dugan said. She subsequently failed a field sobriety test.

She was charged with improper lane usage, transportation of open alcohol, driving with a suspended license and driving while under the influence.
