Blotter: Man arrested in connection with failure to register as a convicted sex offender

An Evanston resident was arrested Saturday in connection with being an unregistered convicted sex offender.

Though the man was originally arrested in the 1700 block of Lyons Street for a separate offense, officers at the station learned he was an unregistered sex offender, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

After moving from Skokie to Bristow, Oklahoma, the man remained unregistered, Dugan said, which is a violation. The man said he moved to Evanston on June 5 and had not registered there either.

He was charged with failure to register, a felony.

Man’s vehicle burglarized in south Evanston

Between Monday night and Tuesday morning, an unknown suspect gained entry into an Evanston man’s car in south Evanston and stole multiple items.

The man’s car was unlocked in the parking garage of his apartment complex in the 400 block of Howard Street, Dugan said. His laptop, sunglasses, a cell phone and other items were taken.

The total value of the items stolen was $1,260. Detectives are checking to see if there was video surveillance of the area.
