An Evanston resident was arrested Monday in connection with criminal damage to property after breaking a windshield of a 2000 Lexus in downtown Evanston.

The man ran into his ex-girlfriend and began arguing, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. The man took out a metal candlestick and used it to break the windshield of her vehicle.

He asked her for a ride to Chicago, and she agreed, saying she was scared of him, Dugan said. They then stopped in the 900 block of Main Street and began arguing; the woman parked and exited the vehicle.

Police were called to the location for a disturbance, Dugan said. They charged the man with criminal damage to property, a misdemeanor.

Clothing stolen from Urban Outfitters

The manager at the Urban Outfitters in downtown Evanston reported Monday that multiple clothing items had been stolen from the store.

Two women came into the store and placed clothing items in two bags, then tried to leave without paying for them, Dugan said. When the manager approached them, one of the women said, “You better not touch me.”

Both women managed to exit the store, and drove away in a gold vehicle, Dugan said.

The clothing is valued at $540.
