Blotter: Evanston man arrested in connection with retail theft from Jewel in south Evanston

A 22-year-old Evanston man was arrested at the Jewel-Osco in southwest Evanston on Monday afternoon in connection with a theft around 2:30 p.m.

An employee at the Jewel-Osco, 2485 Howard St., noticed the Evanston resident put liquor, headphones, diapers and wipes in a cart and leave without paying, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. The total value of the items was $287.85.

The man was charged with misdemeanor retail theft and will appear in court in Skokie on May 17.

Chicago man arrested for no rear registration light, invalid driver’s license

A Chicago man was arrested Tuesday in connection with an invalid driver’s license after being pulled over in central Evanston.

An officer stopped the vehicle in the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue for not having a rear registration light on Tuesday at 2:44 a.m.

The 35-year-old Chicago man presented an invalid license to the officer when he was pulled over, Dugan said. He was charged for both not having a rear registration light and driving with an invalid driver’s license.

The man will appear in court in Skokie on June 27.
