A 12-year-old Evanston resident was hit by a car and injured Friday afternoon, police said.

The girl was was walking across the intersection at Prairie Avenue and McCormick Boulevard in a crosswalk when she was hit by a car driven by a 61-year-old Evanston woman, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

The girl had a broken left leg and was taken to Evanston Hospital.

The driver — who said she didn’t see the girl because of sun glare — was given citations for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and for negligent driving, Dugan said.
