Police Blotter: Man reports stolen van

A man reported his van full of contractor tools stolen Saturday morning.

The 41-year-old Evanston resident found his van missing at 8 a.m. Saturday from his home in the 1000 block of Austin Street when he was leaving for work, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

The man told police he heard a loud noise outside around 2 a.m. that day but did not look for the source of the sound. When he woke up, his orange 2003 Ford van, with his contractor tools inside, was missing, Dugan said.

There are currently no suspects.

Two purses stolen from Evanston residence

Two purses were stolen from a family’s residence sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Between 10:45 p.m. Wednesday and 6:45 a.m. the next day, a person entered a residence in the 2600 block of Stewart Avenue through an unlocked basement door, Dugan said. Two Evanston residents, a 71-year-old female and her 45-year-old daughter, reported the two purses missing from their residence, Dugan added.

Both purses were black and contained keys, wallets and identification, Dugan said. The 71-year-old’s purse contained $200 dollars and the 45-year-old’s purse contained $50 dollars.

There are currently no suspects.
