ASG presidential pairs to debate three times before election

The two tickets running for Associated Student Government president and executive vice president will debate three times before polls open Thursday.

SESP junior Christina Cilento and McCormick junior Macs Vinson will debate Weinberg junior Joji Syed and Weinberg sophomore Archit Baskaran.

ASG’s election commission will host the first debate Monday at 7 p.m. in Fisk Hall 217, and the Coalition of Colors — a collective of identity-based student groups — will host another debate Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the same location.

The Daily will moderate a third debate on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in McCormick Auditorium.

Weinberg junior Lauren Thomas, the election commissioner, said the three debates will allow students to be more informed on the candidates and their platforms before voting on Thursday.

“The Daily has not hosted a debate since I’ve been at Northwestern,” Thomas said. “It’s good that we’re having three debates because I think they’ll focus on different things. Both of the teams have really emphasized reaching students who haven’t been reached by ASG in the past, so it’s really important to get out there and see what they have to say.”

Voting will begin online April 7 at 5 p.m.
