A man was caught on video stealing a laptop and cash from an Evanston cafe, police said.

A 61-year-old female employee at Leonidas Chocolate Cafe, 1907 Central St., reported the burglary at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, Evanston Police Department spokesman Perry Polinski said. She found that someone had forced entry into the back door of the cafe and reported that $200 in cash was missing from the register, in addition to a laptop valued at $700, Polinski said.

Polinski added that the employee reported having seen a suspicious person in the store the day before, and that a video camera inside Leonidas recorded an unknown man stealing the items.

The scene was processed for evidence and police are investigating the suspect, Polinski said.

The loss prevention agent sustained minor facial injuries, Polinski said.
