Three men allegedly physically assaulted and robbed a man Wednesday as he walked in the 1700 block of Darrow Avenue, police said.
The man, a 24-year-old Evanston resident, told police the crime occurred at 6:30 p.m. and described the attackers as black males, Evanston police Cmdr. Diane Davis said. The man said the attackers pushed him to the ground, asked if he was in a gang and stole his iPhone out of his backpack, she said. They proceeded to beat him and flee the scene, Davis said.
The police checked the area but did not find the men, Davis said.
Property damaged at Lincoln Elementary School
An unknown person entered and damaged property at Lincoln Elementary School, 910 Forest Ave., police said.
The school was unlocked after hours for a parent-teacher conference when the damage occurred, and police believe it happened sometime between 3:30 p.m. Monday and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Davis said. The vandal cut the power cords to a Smartboard in a classroom, she said.
There are currently no suspects, police said. Evanston Police Department officers do not believe the teacher of the damaged classroom was targeted, Davis added.
