Police Blotter: Graduate student arrested for choking wife

A Northwestern graduate student was arrested for choking his wife following a dispute at their Evanston residence early Monday morning, police said.

The 29-year-old husband turned himself in to University Police an hour and a half after the incident at approximately 1:30 a.m., Evanston Police Department spokesman Perry Polinski said.

University Police contacted the Evanston police to carry out his arrest, Polinski said.
The man is due in court on March 9.

Man steals wallet, withdraws $500 from ex-girlfriend’s bank account

A 30-year-old Evanston man was arrested early Monday morning for stealing his ex-girlfriend’s wallet and withdrawing $500 from her bank account, police said.

The woman — a 27-year-old Evanston resident — told police her ex-boyfriend grabbed her wallet when she asked him to leave following a verbal dispute, Polinski said.

A man who fit the description was spotted 20 minutes later by police in the 600 block of Howard Street, Polinski said.

The man is due in Skokie court on March 2.
