The Evanston Environmental Association has donated $43,000 to the Evanston Ecology Center for the construction of an extension to the center’s classroom space, the city announced Wednesday.

At the Jan. 11 City Council meeting, EEA presented the city with $43,000 to extend classroom space at the ecology center, 2024 McCormick Blvd. The nonprofit, founded in 1976, was formed to support the ecology center, the adjacent Ladd Arboretum and programming at both institutions.

Construction on the extension began in August and is expected to be completed by the end of February, the city said in a news release. The expanded classroom will allow for more space for programming, as well as living space for the center’s resident animals, the city said.
