Police Blotter: Group fights erupt outside two nearby Evanston residences

Three people were arrested Sunday evening as police tried to break up a string of fights on the same block in central Evanston.

Two separate gatherings of about 30 to 50 total people escalated into several fights in the 1900 block of Brown Avenue, police said. University and Skokie police were called in for backup.

Two adults, a 24-year-old Evanston man and a 22-year-old man from Carol Stream, as well as one juvenile were charged with city ordinances against mob action and disorderly conduct. Police arrested the individuals because they continued fighting after officers attempted to get them to stop, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said in an email to The Daily.

A 15-year-old female Evanston resident had a cut on her cheek that was tended to by paramedics on the scene, but she was not taken to the hospital, Dugan said. Officers patrolled the area for the rest of the evening to prevent any more disturbances, he said.
