A 25-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were arrested in connection with unlawful use of weapons early Saturday in south Evanston during a police stop of a vehicle.

Hugo Pinzon, a Chicago resident and felon, was charged along with an Evanston woman after police found them and one other person in a white Jeep SUV containing a 9 mm handgun and pink stun gun. Pinzon was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, both felonies. He was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of firearm possession without a firearm identification card. The woman was charged with unlawful use of the stun gun, a misdemeanor.

Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Howard Street at about 12:25 a.m. after someone reported an attempted armed break-in involving a white Jeep SUV in the area. Police found the weapons when they stopped the Jeep that Pinzon and the woman were riding in.

The third occupant of the car was not charged. None of the three occupants were involved in the reported break-in.

Man arrested in connection with aggravated assault at consignment store

A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with aggravated assault Sunday after threatening a police officer at an Evanston consignment store.

Staff at Crossroads Trading Co., 1730 Sherman Ave., called Evanston police at about 6 p.m. when the man refused to leave the store, where he was harassing customers and blocking the door, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. When police approached him, the Chicago resident swore at the officer and raised his fists, telling the officer that he was “going to cave his skull in with a brick,” Dugan said.

The man, who has caused disturbances at the store in the past, had been told not to return several different times, Dugan added.

The man is scheduled to appear in court July 7.
