Former Virginia Tech forward Joey Van Zegeren has committed to play basketball at Northwestern next year, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman and other sources.

Van Zegeren is a graduate transfer and will be eligible to play next season. He left the Hokies’ team in January after sitting out four games due to a suspension that stemmed from an incident in practice.

The 6-10 Netherlands native was averaging 9.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game before his suspension. His addition to next year’s roster means the Wildcats are now out of scholarships for the 2015-2016 season, but according to Luke Srodulski of Wildcat Digest, NU is still pursuing 2015 recruit Kipper Nichols. Another player would have to transfer from the team in order to make room.
