Man apprehended in car chase

A 22-year-old Chicago man was arrested in connection with two felony charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated fleeing from a police officer.

An officer saw the man driving erratically near Lee Street and Fowler Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday, Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

Officers pursued the Chicago man and activated an emergency light to conduct a traffic stop. The man sped up in response, Dugan said.

The man then hit two parked cars in the 1100 block of Washington Street and escaped from the car. He was apprehended in the backyard of a residence in the 1100 block of Main Street.

Officers said the man was driving a stolen vehicle, a red Dodge, from Chicago.

He is charged with two counts of felony and two additional counts of misdemeanor, driving while revoked and reckless driving. A court date has yet to be set, Dugan said.

Evanston man charged with retail theft

An 18-year-old man was charged Tuesday with retail theft from Marshalls Department Store, 2400 Main St.

A security guard observed the man take items off the shelf and put them in his jacket pocket, Dugan said. He was stopped after he walked past the last point of sale with the items concealed.

The security guard recovered two iHome battery packs, two black power banks and two phone cases. The items totaled nearly $90 in value.

Richardson is scheduled to appear in court March 13.
