Bullet hole found in garage door

A bullet hole was found Tuesday in the garage door of a west Evanston residence.

The woman who owns the residence, 52, believes it may have occurred on Monday around 11 p.m. when she heard what sounded like a gunshot, Evanston police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said.

She reported the damage , which is in the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue, on Tuesday, police said.

More than $600 worth of goods burglarized from Evanston apartment

More than $600 worth of goods were burglarized from an apartment in south Evanston.

The 56-year-old resident reported to police Sunday that several items, including cosmetics worth about $400, postage stamps and a money order, went missing, Parrott said.

The woman said she thinks it occurred in her apartment in the 700 block of Reba Place over the past several weeks, he added.

Several parking decals stolen

Since Friday, three parking decals have been stolen from south Evanston.

The first incident occurred Friday in the 1500 block of Hinman Avenue, the second occurred Sunday in the 1100 block of Hull Terrace and the third occurred Monday in the 500 block of Sheridan Road, police said.

Parrott said this usually happens because new permits are issued at the beginning of the year.

“People think they’re going to take permits and put them on their (own) car and park somewhere where they normally probably shouldn’t park,” he said.

However, these are probably separate instances, he added. All the permits are numbered, so the parking authority is “keeping an eye out” for them, Parrott said.
