New music building to open for classes starting spring 2015

The new Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music building will be ready to host classes during Spring Quarter 2015.

Northwestern officials approved the building for classroom use earlier than originally expected, Bienen assistant dean for student affairs Linda Garton said in an email sent to Bienen students.

Only academic classes will be held in the building beginning in the spring. Performance classes and other student activities will continue to take place in their current facilities. Faculty offices, practice rooms and performance and rehearsal spaces will not be open in the new building until the summer.

After Winter Quarter 2015, all Bienen academic classes will be phased out of the current Music Administration Building.

The new music building has been planned for about a decade, since former NU president Henry Bienen began fundraising for the initiative.
