Evanston police cite La Macchina, Ward Eight for selling alcohol to underage customers

Evanston police cited two city restaurants last week during a regular compliance check for selling alcohol to underage individuals.

La Macchina, 1620 Orrington Ave., and Ward Eight, 629 Howard St., each failed to ask for proper identification before selling alcohol to an individual under 21 years old, police said.

The two establishments were among 24 investigated during Wednesday’s compliance check, police said. The checks are generally conducted twice a year with underage individuals over the age of 18 who attempt to purchase alcohol while supervised by a police officer.

The two restaurants were found in violation of city ordinance and are required to attend hearings at the Civic Center, police said.
