The District 65 school board selected Paul Goren to be the district’s next superintendent, board president Tracy Quattrocki announced Thursday.

Goren, an Evanston resident whose children attended Evanston/Skokie School District 65 schools, will assume the responsibilities of the superintendent position from interim superintendent Mary Brown and chief administrative officer Barbara Hiller. Brown and Hiller took on the duties of the superintendent’s office in August after former superintendent Hardy Murphy resigned to pursue a career in consulting.

Goren’s contract will begin in July, according to the District 65 superintendent search website.

Goren currently works as a senior vice president at the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning in Chicago. He also serves on the board for Youth Organizations Umbrella, an Evanston nonprofit that works with local schools.

The school board will officially vote on Goren’s “expected appointment” on Monday, Quattrocki said in a news release.
