Police said this evening they have identified a person of interest in connection with the shooting death of an Evanston man.
Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott confirmed an earlier report that police have the person in custody and are questioning him or her. The person has not been charged.
Floyd Gibert, 30, was shot and killed at about 6:20 p.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue, Parrott said at the time.
Gibert, of the 2000 block of Ashland Avenue, was pronounced dead about an hour later at Evanston Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He died from a gunshot wound to the chest, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Another report today said authorities arrested a possible suspect Wednesday morning in connection with the fatal shooting. However, Sophia Ansari, a spokeswoman for the Cook County sheriff’s office, denied that report, calling it the result of a “misunderstanding.”
