Updated: Man shot across from Evanston Township High School

A 20-year-old man was shot Saturday night across the street from Evanston Township High School, according to police.

The man, who is from Evanston, was shot four times with a small-caliber gun at about 8:40 p.m. on a sidewalk near the intersection of Church Street and Hovland Court, Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said Monday. The man was hit twice in the hand, once in the leg and once in the buttocks.

Parrott said the man was taken to Evanston Hospital and has been released.

The man told police two men were responsible for the shooting, Parrott said. Police described the two men as 5 feet 7 inches tall and 135 pounds.

Parrott said this afternoon police are not ruling out the shooting as a gang-related incident. Drugs may have been involved, he added.

Tanner Maxwell contributed reporting.
