Northwestern places in Princeton Review’s theater, town-gown relations rankings

Northwestern’s theater scene is the fourth best in the nation, according to college rankings released Monday by The Princeton Review.

The annual lists are based solely on student opinion. The Princeton Review asked 126,000 students at 378 top colleges to answer questions about their schools’ academics, administrations, extracurricular activities and social opportunities, as well as the students’ own lifestyles.

For the “Best College Theater” designation, NU slotted behind Carnegie Mellon University, Wagner College and Yale University. The Princeton Review had asked students to rate the quality of their schools’ theater productions.

Northwestern also placed on The Princeton Review’s rankings of colleges with the worst town-gown relations. NU came in 19th after placing sixth last year, according to data compiled by city manager Wally Bobkiewicz.

The ranking was based on answers to the question, “How well do students at your college get along with members of the local community?” The last time NU did not appear on the list was three years ago, according to Bobkiewicz’s data.

NU was also named one of the 156 best colleges in the Midwest.
