Northwestern trustee, wife give $10 million to School of Law

A Northwestern trustee and his wife have given a $10 million unrestricted gift to the School of Law, the University announced Tuesday.

The school received the contribution from J. Landis “Lanny” Martin (Kellogg ’68, Law ’73). The Denver businessman and his wife Sharon have donated to NU for more than 30 years and committed to give $15 million to support University athletics and recreation in January.

The Martins’ children are graduates of the School of Law and Feinberg School of Medicine.

J. Landis Martin is the managing director of Platte River Equity, an investment firm based in Denver. Before starting the group, he worked as CEO of industrial, chemical and metal companies.

“Lanny has been one of Northwestern Law’s closest and most loyal friends,” said Daniel Rodriguez, School of Law dean, in a news release. “I treasure him as an ally to our ambitious endeavors and rely on him for his candid counsel and encouragement.”
