Police find marijuana stash after stopping Evanston man in Wilmette

An Evanston man was arrested last week after police say they pulled him over for driving with his lights off in Wilmette and found more than 175 grams of marijuana in his car.

In addition to the pot, which was divided into nine bags, Austine Okacha, 22, was traveling with empty bags, an electronic scale, two marijuana grinders and open alcohol, police said.

Officers stopped Okacha’s silver Toyota Camry in connection with two traffic violations just after 10 p.m. July 7 in the 1000 block of Locust Road, according to police. As officers approached the car, they smelled marijuana and soon after spotted two bags of it on the center console.

Okacha later admitted he had planned to deliver the pot, police said.

Okacha, of the 1300 block of Washington Avenue, was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and three traffic violations. He is scheduled to appear in court July 23.
