Evanston firefighters put out ‘difficult’ blaze with help from 8 nearby communities

Evanston firefighters put out a large blaze in a Judson Avenue apartment complex this afternoon with help from eight nearby communities.

The Evanston fire department responded about 2:30 p.m. to the three-story apartment building in the 1300 block of Judson Avenue, according to the department. Crews initially found heavy smoke from part of the roof and the eaves and later looked for a person reportedly trapped on the third floor. No one was found after multiple searches.

The fire was “difficult to reach” and aerial operations were used to control it, according to the department.

The department did not name a cause or origin of the blaze, which displaced 14 residents.

Evanston firefighters were assisted by crews from Glenview, Morton Grove, Niles, Northfield, Park Ridge, Skokie, Wilmette and Winnetka.
