Evanston Township High School’s varsity baseball team is out of the state playoffs after being hit with sexting allegations, officials said.
ETHS was scheduled to play Chicago’s Taft High School at 4:30 p.m. today in Evanston.
Matt Troha, assistant executive director of the Illinois High School Association, said ETHS has canceled the game, but he declined to comment further.
The school did not immediately respond to a request for comment this morning.
In a letters to parents Thursday, District 202 Superintendent Eric Witherspoon said ETHS this week looked into a report that girls attending the high school had sent sexually explicit text message to the baseball players, who shared them with others.
“Upon receiving this report, school administration initiated an investigation into the facts of the situation to determine what occurred,” Witherspoon wrote. “Appropriate actions have been taken.”
School officials consulted the Evanston Police Department and the state Department of Children and Family Services, both of which have declined to take any action at this time, Witherspoon said.
