Evanston resident Francisco Gonzalez, 18, was arrested Monday night after allegedly robbing a man of his phone in a park.

Police arrested an Evanston teen Monday night after he allegedly robbed someone of his cell phone in a park near the Chicago border.

Francisco Gonzalez, 18, approached a 53-year-old man from behind before snatching his phone at about 7 p.m. in James Park, police said. The man and others who witnessed the incident chased Gonzalez and called police.

Officers later found Gonzalez hiding in a yard less than two blocks east of the park, according to police.

Gonzales, of the 1200 block of Harvard Terrace, was charged with a felony count of theft. He is scheduled to appear in court May 10.
