Two men arrested after allegedly stripping stolen car for parts

Evanston Police arrested two men Monday in connection with possession of a stolen vehicle, Cmdr. Jay Parrott said.

Police used theft-prevention software to locate a vehicle stolen that morning in the 1100 block of Elmwood Avenue, Parrott said. Police located the 1999 Honda Civic in a closed lot in the 1100 block of Dodge Avenue.

At the lot, police discovered two men stripping the car for parts, Parrott said. The men had already taken several parts off the car, and police couldn’t determine the extent of the damage.

Police charged the men with possession of a stolen vehicle and theft, Parrott said. The men are scheduled to appear in court April 30.

Backpack stolen from locked train compartment

A Chicago Transit Authority conductor’s backpack was stolen Tuesday during a ride from Howard to Linden CTA stations, Parrott said.

The 40-year-old Chicago man placed his backpack in a locked compartment on the train, Parrott said. Only employees have access to the area, but no other employees were seen in the area at the time of theft.

The backpack, which costs $175, contained $140 in transit cards, two iPhone chargers and a CTA employee vest, Parrott said.
