The Rundown: Week of Feb. 18

  • Sources report Gwyneth Paltrow wants to move beyond acting and be more like Jessica Simpson. Yes, you read that right. The source says the Academy Award-winning actress will still do some acting on the side, but she really wants to work on her fitness company and website. Better get started on that reality show.
  • CBS cast “Fringe” star Ari Graynor as the lead in the new series “Bad Teacher.” The series is based on the 2011 Cameron Diaz movie of the same name. Instead of adapting a successful movie, they’re remaking one that earned mostly mediocre reviews. It’s an interesting strategy for CBS.
  • Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries have finally set a date. For their divorce. The trial is scheduled to take place in May, but it feels like it should have happened months ago. With Kim pregnant with Kanye West’s baby, I think she’s long moved on from her short-lived marriage to Humphries.
  • If the political arguments aren’t swaying people in favor of gun control, this news might. Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag (it’s hard to believe those crazy kids are still together) have a large gun collection, which they proudly revealed as part of a British documentary about the pair. In the documentary, Montag, who has Christmas-colored gun cartridges, told the audience, “It makes me feel, like, proud to be an American.” And you make the Americans, like, embarrassed, Heidi.
  • Harry Styles is finally speaking out about his split with breakup-song-writer extraordinaire Taylor Swift. Styles told a UK radio station he’s “OK” after the relationship ended in January. Maybe Styles will turn the tables on Swift and release his own chart-topping single about the singer.
  • Kelly Clarkson is lashing out at music producer Clive Davis. He recently penned a memoir, “The Soundtrack to My Life,” and Clarkson said claims made about her in the book are totally false. What doesn’t kill her makes her stronger, but Davis should know to watch out for her “Dark Side.”
  • After Britney Spears proved to be a little too boring as an “X Factor” judge, Demi Lovato thinks Lady Gaga would be perfect for the empty seat. She’d certainly add some excitement to the lackluster judge’s panel, and it would be totally worth it to tune in just to see what Gaga wears every week.
