High school student robbed of phone in front of school

An 18-year-old Evanston Township High School student had his iPhone 5 taken as he was about to make a call while standing in front of the school.

The boy was approached by another boy, about 16 to 18 years old, who ran by him and grabbed the phone out of his hand. The victim went after the other boy to confront him but was punched several times in the face. The phone owner then tackled the boy in the hopes of taking back his phone and was struck by a second person of about the same age as the alleged thief. Both the alleged thief and the third boy fled eastbound on Lake Street, then southbound on Greenwood Street.

According to the victim, they are both ETHS students, but this has yet to be confirmed, Evanston Police Department Cmdr. Jay Parrott said.

Evanston resident arrested for simple battery

An Evanston resident was arrested Sunday night for threatening and attacking his neighbor in the 1600 block of Madison Street.

A 47-year-old man was chasing his dog, which had run out of the building, when his neighbor, the arrestee, threatened to kill him, grabbed his throat attempting to choke him and knocking him to the ground, Parrott said. No injuries occurred, and the neighbor was arrested for battery. Investigations afterward revealed the arrested man was believed to be intoxicated at the time of the incident, breaking a previous order of protection which prohibited him from consuming alcohol on the premise, Parrott said.
