Signing Day 2013: Tyler Lancaster

Tyler Lancaster (6-4, 269) DT

Lancaster made an interesting position switch at the last second for NU as he went from being a highly ranked center to now playing defensive line according to NU Sports. It certainly helps the depth for the defensive line and Lancaster played the position in high school so it’s not completely new to him. The limited film there is on Lancaster on the defensive line looks promising. The most impressive element of his defensive game that jumps out is his ability to shed blockers. I see him as more of a run stuffing tackle rather than an interior pass rusher, so don’t expect him to stuff the state sheet. He does have a mean streak when playing in the trenches which should only benefit him playing on defense. If he will take over that Brian Arnfelt role, he might need to add a little bit more weight but it’ll be interesting to watch his transition to full time defense.
