House burglary attempted on Brummel Street

A 60-year-old Evanston resident reported an attempted burglary to her house Wednesday.

The woman returned to her apartment in the 1900 block of Brummel Street to find the windows open and a small vent-sized window screen ripped away, EPD Cmdr. Jay Parrott said. A brick that props up another window was also left behind in the backyard, the woman reported. There were no signs of forced entry, Parrott said.

Tip jar stolen from Starbucks

Two boys allegedly stole a plastic tip jar from an Evanston Starbucks on Wednesday evening, Parrott said.

The teenagers reportedly entered the shop at 519 Main St., headed to the restroom and snatched the tip jar on their way out, Parrott said. They then fled down Main Street.

Officers were unable to locate them, Parrott said.
