Director Quentin Tarantino received both acclaim and criticism for his Christmas release “Django Unchained.”

Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Quentin Tarantino released his newest creation, “Django Unchained,” Dec. 25. Tarantino pairs an unlikely duo, a bounty hunter, played by Christoph Waltz, and a freed slave, played by Jamie Foxx, in pre-Civil War society. The Daily and Current staffers, along with some Northwestern students, respond:

“Ugh. Too ridiculous to enjoy.” – Amber Gibson

“Another Oscar for Christoph Waltz.” – Sammy Caiola

“Brilliant despite lacking Sally Menke.” – Sydney Zink

“I think Tarantino overdid it.” – Jonathon McBride

“PC just isn’t as fun.” – Sam Freedman

“Golden Globes AND Academy Awards?” – Stephanie Haines

“Making the KKK seem funny.” – Caroline Picard

“Badass movie — gets you pumped.” – Jack Qiu

“It’s violent, extreme and awesome.” – Aaron Goldblum

“There was lots of blood.” – Annie Trimber
