Parking will be free at multiple Evanston parking garages to encourage business in the downtown and Dempster/Chicago areas.

From Nov. 22 to Jan. 1, parking will be free at the Sherman Plaza, Church Street and Maple Street self-park garages, more than 3,500 parking spaces in all. Parking will also be free at Lot 60, 1234 Chicago Ave., according to a news release Monday.

Free parking at the self-park garages will run on weekdays after 5 p.m. to midnight and all day on Saturdays. At Lot 60, parking will be free for two hours on weekdays after 5 p.m. and on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Savings during the holiday season can add up. For instance, parking in a city garage for two to three hours normally costs $3, according to the city’s parking services website. Sunday parking is already free in Evanston.
