Monday, Oct. 15

What: Fashion Focus Chicago: Night at the Museum

When: 7 to 11 p.m.

Where: Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Drive

Cost: $30 for student ticket

On the first night of Fashion Focus Chicago, which runs Oct. 15 through 21 with runway shows in Millennium Park and other fashion events, head over to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum for appetizers, music and a fashion show.

Tuesday, Oct. 16

What: Hot Copy! Journalism in the Greenhouse with Justin Gillis

When: 5:15 to 6:30 p.m.

Where: McCormick Tribune Center, 1870 Campus Drive

Cost: Free, but RSVP prior to the event

Justin Gillis, environmental science and policy reporter for The New York Times, will speak about climate change and how the media can educate people about the issue.

Wednesday, Oct. 17

What: One Book One Northwestern Keynote: Alex Kotlowitz

When: 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Where: Ryan Auditorium, 2145 Sheridan Road

Cost: Free

Alex Kotlowitz, author of this year’s One Book One Northwestern selection, will talk about and sign copies of “Never a City So Real.”

Thursday, Oct. 18

What: Lovers & Madmen’s “Macbeth”

When: 8 to 10 p.m.

Where: Shanley Hall, 2031 Sheridan Road

Cost: $5 for students and $10 for the public

Lovers & Madmen presents their version of William Shakespeare’s classic play “Macbeth.” The show runs Oct. 18 through 20.

Friday, Oct. 19

On campus

What: Friday Night Fever: A Spooky Disco!

When: 10 p.m. t0 2 a.m.

Where: Louis Room, Norris University Center, 1999 Campus Drive

Cost: Free

Dance the night away at Friday Night Fever. The free event, held by NU Nights and Homecoming, will have a pumpkin moonwalk, disco dance lessons, food and a screening of “The Exorcist” at midnight.

Near Evanston

What: Evanston Subaru’s Oktoberfest

When: 6 to 9 p.m.

Where: 3340 Oakton St., Skokie

Cost: Fre

Enjoy live music and German food during the third annual Oktoberfest. The free event continues Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

In Chicago

What: Navy Pier’s Really Big Halloween Party

When: Noon to 9 p.m. Fridays through Sundays until Oct. 28 and Halloween

Where: Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave.

Cost: Free

The all-day event features fortune telling, fire spinning shows, the carving of a 500 lb. pumpkin and much more.

Saturday, Oct. 20

On campus

What: Purple Haze presents Best of the Midwest

When: 7:30 and 10 p.m.

Where: Ryan Auditorium, 2145 Sheridan Road

Cost: $5 for undergrads and $10 for general admission

Join Purple Haze, Another Round from Indiana University, No Comment from University of Illinois and DMaC from DePaul University for a night filled with a cappella.

In Evanston

What: Poetry Reading with Elise Paschen

When: 5:30 p.m.

Where: Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, 3001 Central St.

Cost: $12

Poet Elise Paschen will read from her latest book “Bestiary” and present some of her unpublished poems at the event.

In Chicago

What: The Logan Theatre’s Horror Movie Madnes

When: 11 or 11:30 p.m.

Where: The Logan Theatre, 2646 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Cost: $6.50 for students

Check out showings of “Drag Me to Hell” at 11 p.m. or “A Nightmare on Elm Street” at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at The Logan Theatre. The theater is showing a variety of horror movies throughout October.

Sunday, Oct. 21

On campus

What: Northwestern’s Homecoming Paint Fight – The Color ROAR!

When: 2 p.m.

Where: The Lakefront Field

Cost: $5. Make sure to sign up in advance.

To raise money for the Red Watch Band program, NU Homecoming is hosting their first charity paint fight. Cost of registration includes a T-shirt and paint packets for the fight.

What: Evanston Symphony Orchestra: Viennese Masterworks

When: 2:30 p.m.

Where: Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive

Cost: $5 student tickets if available

Listen to symphonies performed by the Evanston Symphony Orchestra’s Viennese Masterworks in the first concert of their 67th season.

In Chicago

What: Vintage Garage Chicago

When: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Uptown Chicago, 5051 N. Broadway St

Cost: $3

Vintage Garage Chicago will hold their last sale of the season Sunday. The “vintage market” is held in the Uptown Parking Garage and features clothing, jewelry, furniture and records.
