Medical examiner sees no sign of diabetes-related death in Harsha Maddula case

There is no indication that diabetes played a role in Harsha Maddula’s death, a spokeswoman from the Cook County medical examiner’s office told The Daily this afternoon.

In a statement to reporters the morning after the McCormick sophomore’s body was found in Lake Michigan, family spokeswoman Padma Sonti said the Maddulas do not believe their son’s death “had anything to do with his diabetic condition.”

Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott was similarly doubtful this afternoon.

“We don’t believe so,” he said when asked whether investigators think Harsha’s death was related to diabetes.
