Northwestern spokesman: FBI, Evanston Police involved in missing student search

Northwestern spokesman Al Cubbage talked with reporters this morning near the University Police headquarters to provide an update on the search for missing McCormick sophomore Harsha Maddula. Details released at the meeting:

  • UP met with FBI officials earlier Tuesday morning to discuss the case.
  • The Evanston Police Department is now actively involved in the investigation and has assigned detectives to the case.
  • Necessary alerts have been also sent to statewide law enforcement agencies.
  • UP has conducted multiple searches of Maddula’s room in Public Affairs Residential College, reviewed the security tapes, checked his electronic key and checked his cell phone. There were no indications of his whereabouts.
  • UP has interviewed people who were at the off-campus party as well as Maddula’s friends from PARC.
  • Officials from UP and the Division of Student Affairs have met with Maddula’s family members as of Tuesday morning. Family and friends of the missing McCormick sophomore have congregated in Evanston to help with the search.
