Woman choked near homeless shelter

A 50-year-old man allegedly threatened and choked a 42-year-old woman after a verbal dispute early Saturday morning.

The attack occurred in the 600 block of Lake Street near Hilda’s Place, 1458 Chicago Ave., said Evanston Police Department spokesman Cmdr. Jay Parrott. The woman was apparently familiar to Hilda’s Place and might have been homeless, Parrott said. The man eventually let go of the woman, who apparently did not suffer injury and refused medical treatment.

Police did not locate the man, Parrott said.

Men allegedly take sewer cap

Police received a report that two men in a white pickup truck allegedly stole a sewer cap at the intersection of Fowler Avenue and Church Street on Monday, Parrott said. The sewer cap is worth about $1,000, Parrott added.
