Proposal for Lakefill Wi-Fi wins 5K Initiative

After roughly 700 Northwestern students voted in a school-wide online poll, the submission “WiFi on the Lakefill” has won the 5K Initiative, said ASG President Austin Young on Wednesday.

The winning idea, which proposes a wireless Internet service for the Lakefill, will receive a $5,000 grant from the ASG Senate.

The program asked students to submit their ideas on how to improve student life at Northwestern. An ASG committee determined the top four ideas and put them to a popular vote earlier this month.

In his brief address to the Senate, Young said as days grow longer and warmer, students will be spending more time outside and on the Lakefill, making it important to implement the idea as soon as possible.
