Women’s Golf: Weaver ties for first as Northwestern finishes in the middle of the pack

Northwestern used a first-place finish from Lauren Weaver to finish seventh at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tuscon, Ariz., on Friday and Saturday. The junior tied for first place with a 7-under 209, but lost in a playoff to San Jose State’s Jennifer Brumbaugh to lose out on the medal. Her three-round total was boosted by 10 birdies and was the lowest score on the team this season.

It was Weaver’s second first-place finish of her career, after she took first place in the 2011 Lady Northern.

NU had seven golfers partcipating in the tournament, but juniors Mei Liu and Anne Ormson competed as individuals. Liu tied with senior Alex Lederhausen for the next best finish on the team with a 9-over 225, good enough for 40th place.

Freshmen Brittany Mai and Hana Lee also ranked in the top-50 finishing 46th and 50th respectively. Sophomore Devon Brown rounded out the group, shooting a 4-over 76 in the final round Saturday.

The team returns to play April 6-8 in Greensboro, N.C., at the Bryan National Collegiate.
