Nearly $3,000 in jewelry stolen from Evanston home

A burglar took several pieces of jewelry from the home of a 54-year-old Evanston woman in the 1700 block of Keeney Street on Tuesday, said Jay Parrott, Evanston Police Department spokesperson.

The resident was not home at the time of the burglary. Parrott said she called the police after discovering the rear door was forced open.

The burglar stole four pieces of jewelry, including a pearl necklace and a gold necklace with a sapphire pendant. The total amount of the stolen items is $2,930, Parrott said.

Two 15-year-old boys attempt residential burglary

Evanston police arrested two boys, both 15, after they were found attempting residential burglary in the 2200 block of Lincoln Street on Tuesday, according to an EPD news release.

Officers responded to a call made about two people in the area. Police took custody of the 15-year-olds after the boys tried to run away, according to the news release.

The two are also connected to a residential burglary in the 1400 block of Washington Street and an attempted residential burglary in the 1200 block of Austin Street, according to the news release. Both incidents occurred Monday.

Police referred the two boys to court, and a third suspect is being investigated. No charges have been made against a third person in this case, according to the news release.
