Student victim of attempted cell-phone robbery on south campus

A student walking behind Cahn Auditorium and Scott Hall was the victim of an attempted cell-phone robbery late Tuesday night, according to a University emergency notification sent to students early Wednesday morning.

The attempted robbery marks the eighth time since Oct. 22 subjects have attempted or been successful in robbing a victim’s cell phone on or near campus.

Two of the three subjects attempted to grab the student’s cell phone as he was walking south and talking on the phone at around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday night. The student held on to his phone as the subjects fled the scene by bike, according to the notification.

“University Police and Evanston Police officers searched the area and a man matching the description was stopped but the victim was unable to make a positive identification,” the emailed notification said.

The student was not injured, according to the report.
