New Welsh-Ryan Arena court design announced

Welsh-Ryan Arena court is set to get a quick facelift before the 2011-12 school year begins.

Northwestern’s athletic department announced the court’s new design, which features a partially purple three-point arc, among other changes, in a press release Tuesday afternoon.

NU’s athletic department began soliciting input on the court redesign Aug. 1 via its facebook page and website. The winning design was chosen based on the number of “likes” the four potential redesigns received from fans on facebook, as well as input from athletic department staff.

Other features of the court makeover include the revamped Big Ten logo inside the freethrow semicircle and “Chicago’s Big Ten Team” written along one sideline. The complete new design can be seen here: http://nusports.cstv.com/genrel/081611aac.html.

The court will be ready for use Sept. 16, according to the press release.
